About Bradley Knight

About Me: Your Trusted Clinical Psychologist

Professional and Compassionate Care

I am a Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA)-registered Clinical Psychologist in private practice at the Mediclinic Crescent Mental Health facility situated in Main Road, Claremont in Cape Town.

My practice focuses primarily on working with adults, offering short to medium-term individual psychotherapy to address a range of mental health difficulties. My approach is centred on providing a safe collaborative therapeutic space in which clients can explore their challenges, develop their use of practical psychological tools and work towards meaningful change.

Prior to entering private practice, I gained valuable experience across a range of public sector mental health settings. These included the Outpatient Unit at Valkenberg Psychiatric Hospital and the Metro Central Education District Office of the Western Cape Education Department (WCED). I also provided mental health support to young adults across several higher education institutions in Cape Town, including Stellenbosch University, Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) and the University of the Western Cape (UWC).

Therapeutic Approach

I draw on a range of established and innovative therapeutic approaches, tailoring each intervention to the individual needs of the client and the challenges being addressed. These include Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)and BrainWorking Recursive Therapy (BWRT).My approach is practical and collaborative, with an emphasis on equipping clients with the psychological skills and strategies they can apply beyond the therapy session.

CBT helps us recognise and change negativethinking patterns that affectour emotional well-being and contribute to self-defeating behaviours, while ACT helpsusmake space forthose unwanted, unhelpful thoughts and feelings instead of trying to control, avoid or eliminate them. CBTemphasises changing toxicthoughts, while ACT focuses onhow we relate to those difficult thoughts and feelings, helping us clarify our values and takingachievable steps towards being the person we want to be, even whilewe experience emotional discomfort or uncertainty. Both CBT and ACT are well-established, evidence-based therapeutic approaches, supported by extensive research demonstrating their effectiveness. The important thing is finding the approach or combination of approaches, that best suits your individual needs and therapeutic goals.

I also have a particular interest in using innovative, neuroscience-informed approaches such as BrainWorking Recursive Therapy (BWRT), which I use in daily clinical practice where indicated, particularly when working with anxiety, trauma and loss. I am a Level 1 and Level 2 certified BWRT practitioner and had the privilege of presenting my work at the Annual BWRT Congress held in the UK in 2018.
